George A. "Jim" Richner Jr. died peacefully on Jan. 15, 2013. Mr. Richner was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Williamsport. He retired as vice president from Stroehmann Bakeries where for many years he was also secretary, controller and assistant treasurer.
During his early years with the company, he was an office manager in Altoona and Sayre, Pa. While living in Sayre with his family, he introduced the town to Little League Baseball and was president of the league for the first three years of its inception.
Mr. Richner served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific. He belonged to Lodge No. 106 F. & A.M., the Valley of Williamsport Consistory, he was a charter member and Past President of the Loyalsock Township Lions Club, a Life Member of American Legion Post 268, as well as a life member of the VFW Post 7863. George also served for 50 years as secretary and treasurer of the Roaring Run Hunting & Fishing Club. He was a past Officer of Loyalsock Creek Men's Club and past Officer of the Republican Club. He was also a member of Voiture 382 of 40 & 8. Mr. Richner also served as Auditor for Fairfield Township.

Mr. Richner is survived by his daughter, Carol Gallagher; his son-in-law, Joseph; four grandchildren, Deborah (Michael) Carso, Kathryn (Kris) Wilhoit, Matthew (Analiz) Gallagher and George III; great-grandchildren, Joseph (Molly) Carso, Katelyn and Kristopher Wilhoit and Tyler, Dustin and Kiah Richner; and a great-great-grandson, Carter George Richner; brother, Edward of Williamsport; a niece and nephews.
Mr. Richner was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn Bernstine Richner; his son, Stephen; and his parents, George Sr. and Kathryn Harrison Richner.
Visitation will be Friday 4 to 6 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville, with a service officiated by Rev. Gwen Bernstine, 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ Church, 426 Mulberry St., Williamsport, where George was a long-time member.
