June Stroble Looker passed away on Dec. 27, 2012, in Newville, Pa. She was born on June 24, 1928, in Williamsport, Pa. to Carl and Althea Stroble. After finishing her high school education at Williamsport High School, she attended Lock Haven State Teachers College (now known as Lock Haven State University.) She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in special education. Her first teaching post was in Arlington, Va.
Following that she pursued her master's degree in special education at Penn State University. While helping to care for her grandfather in Trout Run, Pa., and continuing to pursue her master's degree, she met her husband of 46 years, the Rev. Russell L. Looker. They were married on July 6, 1956.
Together, they served the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield, N.J. from 1956 to 1966. In the summer of 1966, Russ and June were called to serve the Great Island Presbyterian Church Lock Haven, Pa. It was there that they both excelled in teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping countless young people to prepare to live out their lives boldly and lovingly as Christians.
During her time in Lock Haven, June Looker taught as a short and long-term substitute teacher in several schools in Keystone Central School District.
As a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, she actively served His Church as the moderator of the Northumberland Presbytery, provided strong leadership to a very large junior and senior high youth group at Great Island Presbyterian Church, and served on countless Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly committees in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
For those who had the privilege of knowing and loving June Looker, she will be fondly remembered as an enthusiastic, strong, articulate, kind, professional, and loving teacher to the countless special education students she taught over the years. And, to those whom she served in the Church, she will always be remembered as a role model for what it truly means to be a Christian.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Russell in 2003, and her son David in 1988. She is survived by her son Christopher (Genny) Looker of Vienna, Va., and Stephen Looker of New Cumberland, Pa., and grandsons, Benjamin, Samuel, and Liam Looker.
