Sarah Bess Ostroff

Sarah Bess (Gordon) Ostroff, 98, of Montoursville and formerly of 813 Second St., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Hillside Assisted Living where she was a resident for the past 9 years.

Sarah's parents emigrated from Lithuania in 1911. She was born on Aug. 16, 1914, in Williamsport and was the daughter of the late Israel and Rachel (Bariton) Gordon. She was a 1932 graduate of Williamsport High School. She had worked for many years at Darling Valve. She was a member of Congregation Ohev Sholom, Sisterhood, and Hadassah. She was the leader of the young Judea Group at Ohev Sholom. Sarah had a remarkable memory and enjoyed knowing people, their family and history.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ostroff; her brother, Abraham "Barney;" her sister, Fanny and her nephew, Israel.

The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., with her spiritual leader, Rabbi Shaul Rappeport, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohev Sholom Cemetery. Following the service at the cemetery, the Shiva meal will be held at Ohev Sholom Synagogue at approximately 12:30 p.m. Additionally, respects can be paid at Hillside Assisted Living, 2725 Four Mile Drive, Montoursville, from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hadassah or Ohev Sholom Synagogue, mailed to Ohev Sholom, 1501 Cherry St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

In keeping with Jewish tradition, there will be no viewing or flowers.
