Grace Louise Burnett Skiro, 79, moved home to Heaven on Dec. 26, 2012, from her residence in Montoursville, Pa., after years of assisting her doctors in her diagnoses and medications. (She always said she should have been a pharmacist.)
Born Dec. 30, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to parents Grace and Frederick Burnett, she married Peter Skiro Sr. and moved to Williamsport, Pa., where they raised their family.
As a young girl in the 1940s, Grace relished the times she spent at the cabin in Mountaintop, and babysitting her cousin Judy. When she retired from GTE Sylvania-Montoursville after their closing, she spent her time as a seamstress making homemade quilts, clothes for her grandchildren, and purses and totes that rivalled Vera Bradley.
A member of St. Boniface in Williamsport, Grace was confirmed into the Roman Catholic Church on March 29, 1997. An avid reader of "Apologetics," she was extremely interested in learning the religion and strengthening her faith. She shared many intense religious conversations with anyone interested in the subject.
Grace is survived by her children and their spouses, Karen and Tom Kunkle of Mechanicsburg, Janet Yoder of Arnot, Peter and Karen Skiro of Montoursville, Martin Skiro of Montoursville, and her youngest-feline son Hemi; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and seven stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Skiro Sr. in 1979.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, with Msgr. Stephen D. McGough as celebrant. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Susquehanna Health Home Care & Hospice, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
Arrangements are being handled by Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.
