Start the year off on the right foot with a "First Day Hike" at a local state park.
Bring family and friends together to help make that resolution to be healthy and active, a reality.
Nineteen hikes will be held, most from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 1.
Hikes have been scheduled at the following state parks:
Bald Eagle
Black Moshannon
French Creek
Keystone
Kings Gap Environmental Education Center
Kinzua Bridge
Lackawanna
Leonard Harrison
Marsh Creek
Moraine
Nescopeck
Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center

To join a First Day Hike, visit the park's calendar page through the website for the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Or, for more information, see www.americasstateparks.org.
Hikers who attend the event at Bald Eagle State Park in Howard also will be participating in the annual Christmas Bird Count.
Leonard Harrison State Park in Wellsboro will hold its First Day Hike at the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
The slow-paced, family-oriented hike will be less than one mile long.
If conditions warrant, a limited number of snowshoes will be available, or hikers may bring their own.
Meet at the park office.
Hot chocolate, coffee and tea will be available following the program and participants may bring any extra holiday cookies or treats to share with the group.
