JERSEY SHORE - The Jersey Shore Area School Board selected new leadership at Monday's reorganization meeting, as it elected a new board president, vice president and assistant board secretary.
Board member Shelley Helm was elected to serve as the board's new president by a vote of 5-4. Helm takes over for former President Robert Pryor.
Helm was joined by board members Heather Williamson and Karen Stover, who will serve as vice president and assistant board secretary, respectively.
Williamson won a 5-4 vote, while Stover was elected unanimously for her post.
When discussing the board's 2013 meeting schedule, Harry Brungard, board member, requested that the Dec. 2 reorganization meeting be moved to Dec. 3, as it is the first day of rifle deer season. Richard Emery, superintendent, said there usually is not school during that day and it normally doesn't hold board meetings on days school isn't in session.
The board also decided to move its Nov. 11 meeting for observance of Veterans Day. Pryor said he had no problem either way, but holding a board meeting would give it an opportunity to honor veterans.
"I think it's a good to recognize the veterans," Pryor said.
John Shireman, board member, did not agree with holding a meeting during the day if the board was moving a meeting for hunting.
The board unanimously approved the schedule of meetings with the two changes.
In other business, the board voted to appoint Nick Lorson to the position of junior high wrestling assistant coach.
The board's next meeting will be held at the senior high school at 7 p.m. on Jan. 14.
