Six students from the Lycoming College Sustainability Committee attended a conference, titled "Making Progress - Working on Climate Change in Pennsylvania Higher Education," at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, on Nov. 2.
The event was organized by the Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium.
Information was presented on how Pennsylvania colleges and universities are conducting energy audits and implementing energy efficient technology.
In attendance were seniors Kyle Shakespeare, Alyssa Tomaskovic and Laura Walter and juniors Chelsea Brewer, Cody Giles and Samantha Hewitt.
They were accompanied by Dr. Mel Zimmerman, professor of biology and director of the Clean Water Institute, and Dr. Neil Boyd, associate professor of management and chair of business administration.
In 2009, a grant program coordinated by PERC was used to develop Lycoming's solar energy project.
Since then, the college has also established a sustainability minor, biodiesel project and campus-wide sustainability committee.
