School retirees plan luncheon

The LCCPASR - Lycoming County Chapter of Pennsylvania School Retirees - will hold a Holiday Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Pine Run United Methodist Church.

PASR President-elect Barry Kelly will address the guests. Reservations must be made by today. There is a fee for the meal. For more information, contact Ann Dinges at 435-5250 or aldinges@ verizon.net.

Church to hold Christmas program

The DuBoistown United Methodist Church, 1335 Summer St., will hold a Christmas program with Charles Getchell at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.

Getchell will play hand bells and sing Christmas carols.

Refreshments will be provided after the program by the DuBoistown United Methodist Women.

Health center plans Christmas program

The Susquehanna Community Health and Dental Center will hold a Christmas Program from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the lobby of the Susquehanna Tower at Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

The event will include Christmas carols, music and treats from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

Local artisans guild to hold open house

VICKSBURG - The Susquehanna Valley Spinners and Weavers Guild was started 26 years ago to promote the arts of spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, felting, dyeing and other fiber crafts.

Members of the guild's co-op will host their first holiday open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Daily Grind Coffee Shop, along Route 45.

The guild will offer demonstrations and free "make and take" projects.

Newberry to hold annual tree lighting

Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming to the West End for the third annual Lighting of the Newberry-Jaysburg Christmas tree at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at Brodart Co., 500 Arch St.

The event will be held rain or shine.

City Mayor Gabriel J. Campana will welcome the Clauses and choose two children from the audience to help him lead the countdown to flip the switch that will light up the tree.

Steve Hulslander and West Branch School students will lead the caroling and youngsters can visit with Santa. Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be provided, compliments of Brodart Co. and Harvest Moon Restaurant.

Garden club plans dinner

The Williamsport Garden Club is planning a Christmas dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Williamsport Country Club.

Kelli Stiber, owner of Mystic Garden Floral Studio on Basin Street, will present the program. She will prepare several arrangements that will be auctioned off at the close of the program.

The Williamsport Garden Club has announced its officers for the 2012 and 2013 year. They are Shirley Springman, president; Darlene Melfi, first vice president; Jim Lewis, second vice president; Heidi Healy, recording secretary; Julie Griffiths, corresponding secretary; Ann Dinges, Parliamentarian and publicity; Diane Brown, treasurer; and Joanne Ertel and Jeanette Winner, directors.
