Police: Man stole $1,600 in change
from his mother's parked Jeep
A 24-year-old Upper Fairfield Township man faces theft-related charges for allegedly stealing $1,600 in change from his mother's Jeep, according to Montoursville police.
Keegan D. Carey, of 461 Green Hollow Road, is accused of taking the money from a vehicle while it was parked in the 300 block of Broad Street on Sept. 13, police said.
Right from the start, the mother suspected her son because he has "an addiction to heroin," police said.
Police tracked down Carey, who turned over "a large Tupperware container filled with loose change" before he had a chance to spend it, according to court records. He admitted to the theft, police added.
Following his arraignment before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman on charges of theft and receiving stolen property on Nov. 5, Carey was released on $2,500 bail.
Charges withdrawn after plea entered
In a plea agreement before District Judge Allen P. Page III, Matthew James Golden, 26, of 1025 Washington Blvd., pleaded guilty last week to harassment after city police withdrew the more serious charges of simple assault and recklessly endangering.
The charges stem from Golden threatening his fiancee, Jennifer Conroy, with a knife in the couple's home on Nov. 3, police said.
Golden, now living at 1027 Baldwin St., made arrangements to pay $215 in fines and court costs.
Shoplifting and more from store alleged
A South Williamsport area woman faces theft-related charges after she allegedly stole from the Dollar General Store in Old Lycoming Township a lighter from a display counter as well as money and cigarettes from coats and a purse belonging to store employees, according to township police.
Jasmine Marie Fields, 27, of 1096 Old Pike Road, has been charged with felony shoplifting, theft and trespassing as a result of the incident that occurred on Nov. 4, police said.
While in the store that day, Fields rummaged through employees' coats and purses in an area that is off-limits to customers, police said. On her way out of the store at 2062 Lycoming Creek Road, she grabbed a lighter that was for sale, police alleged.
Fields was arrested four days later when an officer spotted her in the store's neighborhood. She faces additional charges of criminal mischief and attempted theft for allegedly smashing a car window on Nov. 8 in an attempt to steal two bags of money from the parked vehicle in the 2300 block of Lycoming Creek Road, police said.
Following her arraignment before District Judge James H. Sortman, Fields was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $27,500 bail.
Homeless man jailed after alleged theft
A homeless man was jailed on charges of theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly taking a wallet from one vehicle and a handicap parking placard from another, city police said.
Juwann Dickerson, 19, is accused of committing the thefts during the early morning hours of Oct. 26, police said. The thefts occurred in the 400 block of Center Street and 600 block of West Edwin Street, police said. Police also allege he smashed a side window to a Jeep Cherokee, but court records did not say where the SUV was parked.
Following his arraignment later that day before District Judge James Carn on charges of theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief, Dickerson was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Police nab woman who allegedly fled store with 3 purses before going to movie
PENNSDALE - An 18-year-old city woman who fled Macy's at the Lycoming Mall with three purses valued at $744 was nabbed within an hour inside the neighboring Great Escape movie theater, state police said.
After fleeing the department store about 1:20 p.m. on Oct. 21, Asia Monique Bowery, of 968 1/2 First St., Williamsport, allegedly tossed the stolen purses in some shrubbery before going into the theater, where troopers apprehended her as she was watching a movie.
Following her arraignment last week before District Judge Jon E. Kemp on a charge of felony shoplifting, Bowery was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $7,500 bail.
