PENNSDALE - Muncy Township will not have any tax increase for the 2013 budget if it passes as it was read at Wednesday night's meeting.
Expenses of $657,477 falls below the revenue of $664,667, so the supervisors will not have to increase the real estate tax of 1.5 mills from this year.
Balancing the budge became possible because of more properties being sold and more projects being built, said Chairman Paul Wentzler.
Yet while there has been a slight increase in real estate transfers, it is impossible to gauge if the transfers will continue to grow or if they might stay flat as costs continue to grow, Wentzler said.
For the first time, a full-time public works manager was hired from an increase in demands in the township that the temporary work could not finish. Since it was cheaper to insource someone rather than outsource, they hired someone who will do the work of both a worker and a manager.
The township also will have to continue to deal with aging infrastructure and highway improvements in the future.
In other business, the Muncy Township Volunteer Fire Department will be donating an automated external defibrillator to the Pennsdale United Methodist Church since the department updated its equipment.
Because the church has several functions with large crowds, it was decided that by donating the AED, it will improve medical response should something happen that would require it.
