An intense police manhunt took place Friday afternoon for a fugitive who was believed to be hiding in woods near Colvin and Deckman Hollow roads in Old Lycoming Township
"We suspect he is armed," township police Sgt. Det. Christopher Kriner said of Gage Michael Wood, 18, whose last known city address was of the 900 block of Poplar Street.
Numerous police officers, along with a state police helicopter, searched for Wood, who is described as white, with brown hair, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, police said.
It is believed Wood and an accomplice broke into a home near the end of Deckman Hollow Road sometime Friday afternoon, police said.
The burglary was discovered after officers were dispatched to the remote neighborhood about 2:10 p.m. to investigate a report of two males "in the woods, wearing ski masks and carrying bags," Kriner said.
Firearms were taken in the burglary, Kriner confirmed, but added "some have been recovered."
An abandoned motorcycle also was recovered in the woods, not far from the scene of the burglary, Kriner said.
"Neighbors reported seeing two males all afternoon riding on the cycle," Kriner said, adding that investigators believe the two were Wood and an accomplice.
While Wood remained at large, police took one man into custody, but his identity was not released. "He is being detained at the Lycoming County Prison on a probation violation," Kriner said, adding that the man's identity will be released next week when charges are filed.
Kriner said township police also have an arrest warrant for Wood, charging him with felony drug offenses.
