UGI Utilities Inc., a company serving more than 648,000 customers in northern, eastern and central Pennsylvania, has established a scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The UGI Utilities Scholarship will provide annual awards of $1,000, beginning in the fall of 2013, to distinguished students while the fund is building to fully endowed status.
Once fully endowed, the fund will provide awards in perpetuity.

Award preference will be given to students who are enrolled full time in one of the following bachelor-degree majors: heating, ventilation and air conditioning design technology, technology management, and welding and fabrication engineering technology.
Preference will also be given to students enrolled in one of the following associate-degree majors: heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology: mechanical systems, heavy construction equipment technology: technician emphasis, heavy construction equipment technology: operator emphasis, and welding technology.
Applicants who have successfully completed two semesters of study, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have received a scholarship award from the fund in prior years will also be given preference.
"UGI actively recruits from all of these majors for its various locations," said Debra M. Miller, director of corporate relations at Penn College. "The company provides full-time employment and internship opportunities for Penn College graduates and students, and it has donated pipe for use in the college's welding program.
