MANSFIELD-The Mansfield Opera Theatre will present Aaron Copland's "The Tender Land" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Straughn Hall. All performances are free and open to the public.
The opera is set in a small farm town somewhere in the United States on a spring high school graduation day. The story centers around Laurie, the decision she will make about her future and the lives it will impact. The story is brought to life by Copland with timeless tunes such as "Stomp Your Foot" and "The Promise of Living."
The opera is sung in English accompanied by a chamber orchestra, directed by Youngsuk Kim.
The Mansfield University Concert Choir, under the direction of Peggy Dettwiler, will be featured as the chorus. The production is staged and produced by Todd Ranney, who co-directs with Kim, and will feature more than 80 student performers from the MU music department.
