MANSFIELD - Robert E. Amaral III, 47, of 48 Route 549, Lot 20, Mansfield, was charged by state police following a domestic incident at his residence recently.
According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson's office, Amaral was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment following a night of drinking Nov. 4.
According to police, Amaral became abusive toward his girlfriend, Diana Lynn Bassett. When she left to go outside, he "flipped out" and started yelling he would shoot everyone in their sleep, police said.
Amaral went to his room, loaded a Stevens Model 311A 20 gauge shotgun, took it outside on the back porch and fired two rounds from the gun in the general direction of Bassett.
His brother, Kyle, came out and wrestled the gun from him, removed the spent shells and threw the gun across the yard, police said. Both went inside and a scuffle ensued with Amaral hitting Kyle with his fists and then a small metal prybar, police said.
He was jailed in lieu of $7,000 bail. His preliminary hearing was continued to Nov. 14.
