MANSFIELD - Mansfield University communication students recently filmed a music video for an up-and-coming country artist and author Brooklyn James.

On Oct. 6 and 7, MU seniors Kevin Cusworth and Nathan MacNabb were joined by alum Mike Danger to film the video.

The group was recommended to James by communication professors James Lohrey and Dr. Sue Young for the project. James contacted the professors with interest in having the department film her music video for her new song, "Can't Get It Right."

On Oct. 6 and 7, Mansfield University seniors Kevin Cusworth and Nathan MacNabb were joined by alum Mike Danger to film a music video for up-and-coming country music artist and author Brooklyn James.

The crew filmed in Westfield for about 10 hours over two days. The artist picked the location herself as the video is centered around a Chevrolet Chevelle car that is also featured on the cover of her book.

The group will make two separate music videos out of the footage from the shoot, both about four minutes in length. MacNabb and Cusworth used the Mansfield University communication department cameras during the shoot and will be working together using the department's editing software to make one video.

Danger will take his footage from the video to edit his own version.

"With six hours of footage, you're bound to miss a great shot," Cusworth said. "Even though most of us have the same style of editing, it's always good to take a step back, and edit by yourself to see what you come up with."

The experience was one that the students felt prepared for.

"What the Communication Department does an amazing job of is teaching you to be formal and professional, which is huge for things like this," Danger said. "Not to mention all the classes that had helped us to use the equipment," MacNabb added.

The two groups will send their final versions of the video to Brooklyn James, who will then decide which video to release as the official one.

The groups have been given permission to help promote the video once James releases it. The video will available for viewing on YouTube as well as her Facebook page.

James's latest album, featuring "Can't Get it Right," is available on iTunes and the video will be there when it is released.

Stetson and Shewell are students at Mansfield University.
