James A. Shaffer Jr., 76, of 208 N. Lincoln Ave., Jersey Shore, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 24, 2012, in the Jersey Shore Hospital Emergency Room.
Born June 24, 1936, in North Bend, Pa., he was the son of James A. Shaffer Sr. and the former Hazel Mitchell.
James is survived by his wife, Carole L. Custer. They were united in marriage June 24, 1989.
For many years he was a member of the V.F.W. of Williamsport and the Jersey Shore American Legion. James honorably served his country in the United States Army. For many years he was a cook with the Speno Railroad and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Also surviving is a son, Mark Shaffer; a stepson, Todd M. Wood of Jersey Shore and a sister, Lillian Kitchen of Montoursville.
James was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Bacon.
Memorial services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, is in charge of arrangements.
