Brown Library is like 'Siri' with answers via text, Web

Williamsport Sun-Gazette

We've all seen the iPhone ads showing off the questions Siri, Apple's "intelligent personal assistant" can answer.

Need a locksmith? A picture of a weasel? How to tie a bow tie? Just ask Siri!

But what if you don't have an iPhone and still need to know how to make gazpacho?

Use the library! The Information Services desk at the James V. Brown can answer all of those questions - and just about anything else you can come up with.

You don't even need to actually call us, although we'll be happy to take your phone calls. You can chat, email or text us, too.

The library's website, www.jvbrown.edu, is chock full of ways to get in touch with us.

On the right side is a green "Chat with us" button.

Clicking on it opens up an instant message window where the Information Services staff is available to answer your questions most of the time the library is open.

Scrolling down the right side, you'll see the "Ask Here PA" box.

Ask Here PA is a service staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by librarians from around the country.

It's great if you really, really need an answer after hours.

Over on the left side, you'll see "Contact Us" as one of the options under the menu.

It links to an email form if you have more in-depth questions that will take a little more time to research.

Most of the time you'll get an answer within 24 hours.

Prefer texting? You can text us, too. Text 66746 and start your first message with the keyword askjvb followed by a space. Type your question and press "Send."

We're ready to help, no matter what your preferred method of communication. Just ask!
