Family Promise to hold auction

The third annual paddle and silent auction will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday at Roads to Freedom, Center for Independent Living, 24 E. Third St.

The auction will benefit the Family Promise of Lycoming County.

Trout Run UM?Church to host SPCA benefit

TROUT RUN - In celebration of National Adopt-a-Dog Month, the Trout Run United Methodist Church is hosting a festival to benefit the Lycoming County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Trout Run Volunteer Fire Co. social hall.

The event will include lots of activities, food and live entertainment provided by the classic rock band Strawberry Alley and Friends.

The SPCA will be on hand with games and pets available for adoption from the SPCA. There also will be a costume contest where pet owners can enter their pets for prizes.

Pets must be friendly, licensed and up-to-date on vaccines.

All participants will receive a complimentary gift bag and three winners will receive prize ribbons and additional special prizes.

Artisans to meet in area

MIFFLINBURG - The Susquehanna Valley Spinners and Weavers Guild will meet Sunday at the Daily Grind, 6404 Old Turnpike Road.

Refreshments will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the business meeting and program will take place from 2 to 4 p.m.

The featured speaker is Debby Knelly, who will show her unique crochet items with the program, "Creative Crochet."

The event is open to the public.

Museum to display Hammermill pics

LOCK HAVEN - From 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, the Heisey Museum, 362 E. Water St., will display photographs from the former Hammermill plant.

Area quilt guild to meet

WELLSBORO - The October meeting of the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Gmeiner Arts and Cultural Center, 134 Main St.

After a business meeting and a show and tell of members' recent quilt projects, the Viewers' Choice winners of the 2012 Quilt Exhibit will be announced.

The winning ticket of the raffle quilt will be drawn and announced.

Members are reminded to bring in their red, white and blue blocks for the Quilts of Valor project under way in the guild. They should be any pattern 12 1/2-inch unfinished size, with no flower prints.

A guild challenge to complete unfinished projects will begin in October and end in May with a prize drawing from those meeting the challenge criteria.

All meetings are free and open to the public.
