MUNCY - Muncy held its fifth annual Corvettes on Main Street and Artists From Our Own Backyard festival Sept. 15.

Plenty of cruisers, craftspeople and onlookers came out to enjoy the gorgeous early fall weather and stroll Muncy's Main Street, which was blocked off to vehicle traffic for the day.

The Muncy Professional and Business Association organizes the event every year, along with the Susquehanna Valley Corvette Club.

"We had 123 cars out, from as far as Erie, Delaware, Harrisburg and upstate New York," said organizer Wayne McPherson. "It was one of our bigger years - last year we were down some because of the flood, of course."

The local artist portion of the show was a success, according to Karen Spring, treasurer of the business association.

"We had 18 artists set up, all local," Spring said. "We had pottery, paintings, soap, dolls, photographers - I was the basket person. There was a lot going on that weekend, with the balloon festival and all, but we were busy all day."

McPherson said that estimated attendance for the day's festivities, which ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., was near 5,000.

"The weather was perfect and everything went very well," McPherson said. "We haven't started planning for next year, but I don't see any reason why we won't do it again."

Proceeds from the event were donated to the American Cancer Society. Local representative Ellen Bokeko was presented with a $1,000 check.
