Montoursville Scout recieves Eagle award

Brent Robert Maxwell, 17, a senior at Montoursville Area High School, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers, the Eagle Scout award.

Maxwell was recognized during a Court of Honor ceremony May 12 at Faith United Methodist Church, Montoursville.

Maxwell started his Scouting career in 2002 with Cub Pack 21 as a Tiger and worked his way through the ranks to receive his Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts. In 2006, he crossed over into Boy Scout Troop 21. Maxwell's positions within the troop include Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Patrol Leader and Troop Guide.

For his Eagle Scout project, Maxwell removed and reconstructed the flower beds outside the Family Promise of Lycoming County Day Center along Sherman Street. He also constructed two benches for the porch along with hanging planters and a sign above the steps. Maxwell recently earned his Order of the Arrow and attained Brotherhood membership this past summer.

He is a member of First United Methodist Church. He is actively involved in the FUSE youth group and participated in his first mission trip in June in Evansville, Ind. He also is an active member of the Loyalsock Creek Men's Club and a junior firefighter for Willing Hand Hose Co., Montoursville.

Maxwell is the son of Donielle and Jim Ashton, Montoursville.
