Mr. and Mrs. Mendelssohn Hoxie, Jersey Shore, observed their 65th wedding anniversary Aug. 30, 2012.
They were married by the late Rev. Charles N. Ouderkirk, father of the bride, at St. Paul Methodist Church, Syracuse, N.Y.
Mrs. Hoxie, the former Pauline Ouderkirk, is a native of Syracuse. She is the daughter of Norine (Ames) and Charles N. Ouderkirk. She graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy, Syracuse, in 1946. She attended Powelson Business Institute of Syracuse. She was employed by Syracuse University Hospital as a medical secretary and by Jell-o Co., LeRoy, N.Y. She retired from ManorCare as a social service director and purchased an arts and crafts business in Lock Haven, which she and her husband operated until 1984. She is employed part-time by Comfort Keepers.
MR., MRS. MENDELSSOHN HOXIE
Mr. Hoxie is the son of the late Mildred (Miller) and Vern Hoxie. He graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in 1940, and received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Syracuse University in 1947 and received a master's degree in education. He served in the Marines in Iwo Jima during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was employed by the LeRoy Gazette for three years as managing editor. He also was employed by Byron-Bergen Central Schools, Bergen, N.Y., as a teacher from 1953 to 1964. He also was employed for three years by the former Williamsport Area Community College, now Pennsylvania College of Technology, as assistant to the president and was personnel director at Jersey Shore Hospital for two years.
They are the parents of three daughters, Susan Elizabeth, Frankfurt, Germany; Janice Lee Rivera, Avis; and Anne Norine Bittner, Round Hills, Va.
There are four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
