Kelly Services key to job searches

September 4, 2012

Those seeking work in most any type of position can look no further than Kelly Services at 2350 E. Third St. in the Oaks Plaza, Loyalsock Township.

Ashlie Gittens, Kelly Services district manager, said the staffing and recruiting agency can help people find work in a matter of days in positions like customer service, light industrial, clerical, engineering and information technology.

She said she wants other businesses in the area to know the talent that is available in some new areas such as engineering and IT.

"I think we're changing the face of the market, really," Gittens said of engineering placements.

Natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale has produced more opportunities for employment. Gittens said Kelly Services has placed many clients in administrative support positions in that industry.

The company, with national headquarters in Troy, Mich., has been serving the Williamsport area since 1991.

Along with Gittens, Rylee Houseknecht serves as staffing supervisor at the local office.

Kelly Services offers training programs for various job placements, many of which are web-based.

"We can do anything," Gittens said of the many types of training opportunities for prospective workers.

She added that social networking has become an important tool in recruiting employees, as well as traditional open houses and job fairs.

The next Kelly Services job fair will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at the East Third Street office

The company helps people find temporary, temp-to-hire and direct-hire positions.

Although Kelly Services does not make predictions about the local job market, "based on recent months, we have seen some positive signs of economic improvement," a company headquarters representative said in a statement. "Many businesses are still hesitant to staff up and therefore are utilizing the advantages to hire employees on a temporary or temp-to-hire basis."

To qualify for an open position, candidates need two forms of identification and be at least 18 years old, said Gittens.

For more information on Kelly Services, visit www.kellyservices.com or call the local office at 327-8226.
