As students in the Williamsport area prepare for school, the James V. Brown Library has a number of services and products to help support them through the academic year.
We know that reading is fundamental. Once a child can decipher text, other subjects and skills easily fall into place.
Our young children can increase their reading and literacy skills through the online database, Tumblebooks. Books come to life on the screen with movement, music, and reading. Children also begin to recognize vocabulary through the program's interaction with the words.

Continuing to promote reading for our tweens and teens, the James V. Brown Library will sponsor a Reader's Cafe from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students who gather in the Teen area on the second floor of the Welch's Wing, for every 30 minutes read, will receive a snack.
The Reader's Cafe was instituted during the summer reading program and was widely successful.
The Reader's Cafe provides an incentive for youth to complete homework, or read for pleasure.
High school students preparing for the SAT, ACT or PSAT, can visit the Library's career lounge on the second floor of the Welch's Wing.
The library has several college exam manuals, including Baron's, Princeton Review and Peterson's.
Students also may take practice exams through the Library's online database, Learning Express.
Whatever the subject or topic might be, the James V. Brown Library has resources for you. We welcome students anytime with homework or research questions. You also can ask questions through our text service called "Ask a Librarian".
