Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E. Montgomery, South Williamsport, observed their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 9, 2012.
They were married by Monsignor Post at St. Boniface Church, where they are members.
Mrs. Montgomery, the former Mary Bender, is a native of Williamsport. She is the daughter of the late Veronica and James Bender. She graduated from the former St. Mary High School, now St. John Neumann Regional Academy, in 1951. She retired in 1997 from Williamsport Area School District.

Mr. Montgomery, a native of Detroit, Mich., is the son of the late Loretta and Ernest L. Montgomery. He served in the Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952. He retired in 1984 from the Williamsport Bureau of Police.
They are the parents of four sons, David and Robert, both of Montoursville; Thomas, Richmond; and Stephen, Jersey Shore; and three daughters, Susan, Williamsport; Cindy Gardner, Montoursville; and Amy Reis, Loyalsock Township.
There are 12 grandchildren, including the late Aaron Montgomery, and eight great-grandchildren.
In honor of their anniversary, an anniversary mass was held in June by the Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton, at St. Peter Cathedral, Scranton. A family picnic, hosted by their children, also was held Aug. 5.
