Herb guild to hold geranium talk

Geraniums will be the subject of the Williamsport Herb Guild program at 7 p.m. Monday at Covenant-Central Presbyterian Church, 807 W. Fourth St.

The presenter will be Joyce Brobst, of Bloomsburg, an authority on the many varieties and raising of geraniums.

Brobst, a retired teacher of environmental science, biology and botany, has received many awards from horticulture and environmental organizations.

A member of the Herb Society of America and the International Geranium Society, Brobst co-authored the book, "Pelagonium, Herb of the Year 2006."

There will be geranium plants, included scented geraniums, for sale at the meeting. The meeting is open to the public.

Eagle scouts to hold fundraiser

Two aspiring Eagle Scouts will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 101 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport.

Take out will be available and tickets will be at the door. All proceeds will benefit their Eagle projects.

'Hot and Stinky' highlights garlic

DRUMS - The Keystone State Hot and Stinky Garlic and Herb Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 25 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 26 at Zanolini Nursery and Country Shop, St. Johns Road.

There is no admission to the festival and parking is free.

There will be garlic and hot pepper eating contests, fresh locally grown garlic for sale, artisans selling their wares and a homemade chili cook-off.

The event also will feature a Chinese auction, garden tours, wine tastings and music.

Quilt guild plans original exhibit

WELLSBORO - The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild will hold a gala opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Gmeinar Art and Cultural Center, 134 Main St.

The exhibit is free of charge and will be open daily from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 8 to 30.

The exhibit, the seventh for the guild, celebrates the range of interests of the members from traditional patterns to original designs.
