Warrior Run student takes gold at national leadership conference

Julie Bush, a senior at Warrior Run High School, Turbotville, received a gold medal for her Recycle and Redesign competitive project at the National Family, Career and Community Leaders of America 2012 National Leadership Conference.

More than 3,600 students competed in STAR Events - Students Taking Action with Recognition - which are competitive events that build proficiency and achievement in leadership and job-related skills.

Competitors use a planning process to identify a concern, set a goal, form a plan, take action and then evaluate their results.

The items she selected were old ribbons, rosettes and polyfil that she created into a new pillow.

Bush's event recognizes individual participants who select a used consumer item to recycle into a new product.

The items she selected were old ribbons, rosettes and polyfil that she created into a new pillow. Additionally, Bush researched and presented the effects of recycling on the environment and economy.

FCCLA, is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
