County issues warning about 911 scam

July 27, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The Lycoming County Department of Public Safety recently received reports of calls to county residents from people telling them their medical information could be added to the county 911 data base and that the information could better assist emergency responders.

Callers said a fee of $480 would be charged for the service. However, the calls are not being made or endorsed by the county, John Yingling, director of public safety, said Thursday.

Anyone receiving such a call should get as much information from the caller as possible, then call the local law enforcement agency.
