When people consider H&R Block, they usually think of a service that prepares taxes for customers.
But H&R Block, 1748 E. Third St., Loyalsock Township has expanded its offerings to bookkeeping and payroll help for businesses.
"We are trying to get the word out - it's a new service," said Trish Wykoff, office coordinator.

Wykoff said the local H&R Block branch is the only one in the local area to be providing the extra services.
Interestingly enough, H&R Block began as a bookkeeping business many years ago, according to Wykoff.
But when many people started looking for help for filing their tax returns, H&R Block found a niche market.

Now, the company is looking to provide help to people for services other than taxes.
Customers can come for either or both bookkeeping or payroll help.
Two people, including Wykoff, will be available to provide the additional services.
"Right now, we have a couple of businesses in the works looking to do it," she said. "I look at it as a way to expand and meet new people."
Wykoff said the services can be done for a reasonable fee.
In the meantime, customers still can come for tax filing services.
People instantly think of H&R Block as taxes," Wykoff said. "Now, we are getting them to think of us differently."
The local H&R Block, located in the TJ Maxx Plaza, has been in business for about 30 years.
It employs 15 people.
H&R Block prepares more than 24.5 million tax returns worldwide, with offices in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Brazil.
Founded in 1955 by brothers Henry W. Bloch and Richard Bloch, H&R Block today operates 11,000 retail tax offices in the U.S., plus another 1,700 abroad.
