Stanley V. Higgins

Stanley "Stan" V. Higgins, 81, of Montoursville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Sycamore Manor.

He was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Montoursville, a son of the late Harold D. and Eva C. (Wilkins) Higgins.

Stan was a 1949 graduate of Montoursville High School and a Korean War Army veteran. Known by many as "Slim," he retired from the PA Game Commission (game farm) in 1985 after 35 years of service. In 1975, Stan received the Governor's Award for Cost Conservation, which was instituted at all Game Commission farms. He was one of only four state employees to receive this award that year.

He was a wonderful pianist and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Many people stopped to admire his beautiful flowers.

Stan was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Gordon and Floyd and a sister, Colleen Otto.

He is survived by two sisters, Julia (William) Ader of Shillington, Pa., and Sandra (Louis) Fagnano of Williamsport; and many nieces and nephews.

At Stan's request there will be no services. Donations may be made to the General John Burrows Historical Society, 19 N. Loyalsock Ave., Montoursville, PA 17754.

Arrangements are by Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.
