A West Fourth Street man has been jailed on charges of allegedly stealing $30,000 worth of jewelry and collectible coins from a woman's Armstrong Township on Route 15, state police said.
In addition to charges of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property, Steven Craig Long, who turns 30 today, faces an additional misdemeanor charge of false reports to law enforcement, police said.
Police allege Long stole the jewelry and coins from Sophia Daskalakis' home at 1080 Route 15 on April 24.
Long initially implicated the victim in the case, claiming that Daskalakis schemed to file a false claim with her insurance company and that she "gave" the jewelry and coins to him. Police later determined that Long's version was bogus.
Police recovered some of the victim's stolen jewelry at Long's apartment at 144 1/2 W. Fourth Street on Monday. Long was arraigned the next day before District Judge James H. Sortman and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
