Last fall I made a trip to Williamsport to visit the Farm Market held off of Little League Boulevard. I asked who was in charge of it and was pointed in the right direction.
I asked about space for the 2012 season.
I was asked what I would have to sell and I replied vegetable produce.
I was then asked if I grow it. I said, "No, I buy at the produce auction."
To my surprise, I was told no way.
It must be home grown.
Standing in the background were a few Amish and Mennonite men I see at the auction every week.
When I questioned their present with stands, I was told the rules state you must raise what you sell.
I have tried since the market started to get a stand and have been told there is a long waiting list and I can't sell if I don't grow the produce. Where is this fair and why are the rules being bent for some but not for all?
If some of the vendors are permitted to sell items bought at auction, then it should be all vendors can do it also.
I didn't like the statement she made that she didn't want me there because I would price cut other vendors.
I think this is called business and I don't want to over charge my customers.
Go to Lewisburg on Wednesday and see the growers market and how nice it could be here in Williamsport.
I have all my permits I was told I needed and I find locations to sell my purchased items without going to the market on Saturday.
