David LeRoy Kurtz, 53, of Independence, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012. He graduated from Williamsport Senior High School in Williamsport, Pa. in 1976 and Pennsylvania College of Technology, Penn State, Williamsport, Pa., Campus Division, with an associate of applied science in aviation technologies on May 19, 1990. He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, a Marine Corps Veteran, a member of the NRA, and avid hunter, fisherman, corn hole player and golfer. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Kurtz of Williamsport, Pa. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Susan Kurtz (nee Rhoads) of Independence; daughter, Rhonda (Daniel) Martin of Crittenden; son, Michael Kurtz of Independence; mother, Hazel Kurtz of Williamsport, Pa.; sisters, Patricia (Jim) Messner of Cogan Station, Pa. and Nancy (Fred) Michel of Swan Lake, N.Y. and grandchildren, Alyssa Carroll and Charles Carroll, both of Crittenden. Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2012, from 6 p.m. until time of funeral service at 8 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home of Florence.
