Carl V. Probst

Carl V. Probst, 87, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, in Jersey Shore.

Born May 23, 1925, in Swissdale, he was the son of Elmer E. Probst and the former Eva M. Helbley.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, the former Kathryn P. Hill, on Aug. 30, 1996. They were united in marriage on Oct. 1, 1955.

Carl was retired from Hammermill Paper Co. after 35 years of service. For many years he was a member of the United Paper Workers Local No. 1787 and was a member of the Larryville United Methodist Church. During the Korean War, Carl honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by a son, Carlyle L. (Shirley) Probst of Jersey Shore; two grandchildren, David F. Rich and Eric F. Rich; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Kelby and Melanie; two brothers, Lynn S. Probst of Swissdale and Lyell O. Probst of Fort Wayne, Ind.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father; three brothers, Willard A. Probst, Elmer E. Probst Jr. and Arthur E. Probst; also by two sisters, Audrey M. Probst and Vivian M. Probst.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of services in the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Salladasburg Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard. Rev. Kevin E. Brophy his pastor will officiate.

Family will provide flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made in his name to the Alzheimers Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave., 7th floor, New York, NY 10001.
