Leonard McComb Lykens, 67, of New Cumberland, Pa., was born Feb. 17, 1945, in Williamsport, Pa., the son of the Late Rev. Lawrence W. and Letty McComb Lykens. He went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2012.
Leonard was a 1963 graduate of the William Penn High School, Harrisburg. He was a life member of the New Cumberland Fire Company. He was President of H.E.L.P. (the Harrisburg Emergency League of Pennsylvania), a citizens band emergency radio team on CB Channel 9.
Leonard was a graduate of the National Academy of Broadcasting, Washington, D.C. He worked at WWPA, his hometown radio station in Williamsport, as well as several other local radio stations.
In 1978, he became a credit office employee of the Pomeroy's Department Stores and later the successor, Bon-Ton. While at the Harrisburg Pomeroy Store, he served as the store Santa Claus from 1978 to 1993. He became a member of "Topps," the Original Pomeroy People, a group formed after the Harrisburg Pomeroy Store was closed.
Leonard was a Notary from 1976 until his death. He was a current member of the Pennsylvania Association of Notaries. He belonged to Post 945 of the American Legion and was a member of the Carlisle Fish and Game Association and the American Radio Relay League. In 2006, Leonard was past President of the Gold Age Club of New Cumberland.
Leonard and his parents assisted in the formation of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, which began in the basement of the Holiday Inn on the Carlisle Pike. The church is now located on Jerusalem Road, Mechanicsburg.
Viewing will be at 3 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 4 p.m. Wednesday, at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Burial will take place Thursday at Clarion Cemetery.
