Mayor Gabriel J. Campana is pushing to create entertainment districts in certain Williamsport zoning districts.
It's an exciting concept that would add diversity to Williamsport in a wide variety of ways. How many times have we heard the cry "there isn't enough to do" regarding the city?
A cautionary note: Before these districts are created, there needs to be a full public airing of the implications in the areas where the districts are created. These districts need to be judiciously allowed.
What works downtown might very well be too disruptive in a residential area.
Williamsport needs to broaden its offering. It needs the buzz that entertainment areas create.
But that shouldn't be done at the expense of the residential flavor that has always made Williamsport a great place to live.
