A passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Penn State Beaver a 5-4 win over Penn College in the Penn State University Athletic Conference baseball playoffs on Friday.
The Wildcats (23-12, 14-6 PSUAC West) had tied the score in the top half of the seventh inning before the game-winning run scored with two outs and eliminated the Wildcats from the playoffs.
Senior Thomas Hughes had two hits for Penn College.
The Wildcats still have a possibility of continuing their season as they await the release of at-large bids from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association for its national tournament. Bids will be released early next week.
Mansfield freshman Anthony Renz homered and doubled in Game 2 of a doubleheader, but his team dropped both games to Kutztown, 5-0 in 10 innings and 7-5.
Mansfield falls to 13-34 overall and 5-17 in PSAC East play.
In girls lacrosse, Lewisburg's Hannah Gotoff scored four goals and the Green Dragons defeated Mifflinburg, 13-3.
In high school baseball, Hughesville's Scott Myers threw a complete-game five-hitter as the Spartans shut out Lewisburg, 7-0.
South Williamsport scored five first-inning runs and the Mounties defeated St. John Neumann, 8-1.
Sullivan County had just three hits in a 12-0 loss to Southern Columbia.
Montoursville scored three first-inning runs, but Milton had a pair of three-run innings in an 8-4 win over the Warriors.
In high school softball, Muncy scored in each of its five at-bats and defeated Bloomsburg, 14-4. Hannah Cole had four hits for the Indians (8-4, 6-3 HAC-III) and Crystal Good had three. Amanda Kustanbauter pitched all five innings and improved to 5-2.
In high school tennis, Williamsport defeated Central Columbia, 4-1, and set up a winner-take-all match with Jersey Shore on Wednesday at Loyalsock. The Millionaires and Bulldogs finished the HAC-I with 13-1 records and the winner on Wednesday will earn a district playoff spot.
Milton's Ryan Pace and Drew Pace each won three-set matches in singles and the Black Panthers beat Muncy, 5-0.
In college softball, Lock Haven's PSAC Tournament game against No. 2 Kutztown was moved to 3 p.m., today due to heavy winds yesterday.
In college track and field, Lock Haven's 1,600-meter men's relay team won the Penn Relays for the Bald Eagles first win at the event since 1993.
The Lock Haven team of Sean Harper, Steve Roberts, Christopher Jones and Nathan Sweeley finished in 3:16.25.
Tyler Thomas, a Jersey Shore graduate, finished ninth for the Bald Eagles in the shot put Eastern Division with a mark of 50-11.
