Mr. and Mrs. James "Jim" D. Carpenter, Loyalsock Township, are observing their 40th wedding anniversary today, April 8, 2012.
They were married by the Rev. Harold Dodd at Clymer Baptist Church, Sabinsville. They are members of GAP Fellowship.
Mrs. Carpenter, the former Charis Abbott, is a native of Sabinsville. She is the daughter of the late Nilah and Roy Abbott. She graduated from Cowanesque Valley High School, Westfield, in 1971. She is employed by Williamsport Properties in maintenance.

Mr. Carpenter, a native of Wellsville, N.Y., is the son of Eleanor and Embert Carpenter, Westfield. He graduated from Cowanesque Valley High School in 1969 and received an associate degree in journalism from the former Williamsport Area Community College, now Pennsylvania College of Technology, in 1971. He is employed by the Williamsport Sun-Gazette as the religion editor.
They are the parents of two daughters, Christy Barkley, Newport News, Va., and Leanne Reed, Ohio, and one son, Keith, El Paso, Texas.
There are seven grandchildren.
In honor of their anniversary, the couple vacationed in St. Maarten, Caribbean Island.
