"I have a passion to reach young adults and I just want to inspire and challenge them to do something positive," said Vaughn Wilson, founder of the Faith Movement. "We need to give young people a platform to do something positive."
Those who audition will have a minute-and-a-half to perform a cover or an original piece of their choosing. They will be judged on style, stage presence and performance. Three to four performers or groups will be chosen to perform at the live competition in June.
Wilson said the event grew substantially in its second year, with an enormous positive community response. He is hoping that this year will be even bigger.
"I really want to partner with some businesses who want to participate and bring our community together and inspire our youth," he said. "I want to speak life into our youth and do something positive and still be creative. They will be the next generation to keep our community safe."
All participants will be awarded a prize and Wilson said he is accepting monetary or gift certificate donations from local businesses to be given to the event participants. He also said all first-place winners will receive a "Williamsport's Best" trophy and a cash prize.
Audition registration forms are available at the Unity Christian Fellowship, The Campbell Street Family, Youth and Community Center, 600 Campbell St., and Williamsport Area High School.
Performers should bring their completed registration forms with them to their audition, along with a $5 entry fee. A parent signature is required if the performer is younger than18.
"I want to show them that you can use your gifts and use them positively," Wilson said. "I believe we are all role models and leaders and we will lead in a negative or a positive way."
I really want to make it (the competition) diverse and bring everyone together," he added. "That's what a community is all about."
