The Rev., Mrs. Charles Heaps observe 60th anniversary

The Rev. and Mrs. Charles M. Heaps, Montoursville, observed their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 28, 2011.

They were married by the Rev. Clay Rice at Zion Lutheran Church, East Petersburg.

Mrs. Heaps, the former Georgia Ann Usner, is the daughter of the late Ruth Cox Usner and Elwood Usner. She graduated from East Hempfield High School, Landisville. She was employed as an assistant to the Montoursville borough tax collector and also was a bank teller and teller trainer at Chambersburg Trust Co.

THE REV., MRS. CHARLES M. HEAPS

Mr. Heaps, a native of Lancaster, is the son of the late Esther Leptich Heaps and Harvey Heaps. He graduated from Hempfield High School and served in the Naval Reserves as a corpsman and as a chaplain for the Air Force for three active years and 17 reserve years. He received a bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, in 1955, and a master of divinity in 1958, a master of sacred theology in 1973 and a doctorate of ministry in 1983, all from the Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary. He retired in 1994 from First Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, and also served the Turbotville Parish and Bethany Lutheran Church, Montoursville, and various interim pastorates in the area.

They are the parents of two sons, David C., Montoursville, and Michael A., Carlisle, and a daughter, Sharon L. Sutkins, Montoursville. There are 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In honor of their anniversary, a celebration, hosted by their children, is being planned for January.
