Zendo to hold silent auction and open house

December 4, 2011
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

STILLWATER - From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, the Endless Mountain Zendo, 104 Hollow Road, will hold a silent auction fundraiser for its nonprofit activities.

The auction will begin at noon. There will be free refreshments, as well as a cultural aspect to the event. Japanese "matcha" powdered green tea and sweets will be offered to event guests.

Matcha is traditionally served in a tea ceremony, the practice known as "chado," or way of tea. Matcha and tea utensils will be among the many items related to the Zen arts in the auction and sale.

There also will be other items for holiday gift giving such as handcrafted works by local artisans, Japanese and Chinese calligraphy scrolls, sumi-brush ink drawings, pottery, jewelry, hand weavings, photography, soy candles, incense, books, meditation cushions, live orchids and baked gifts.

"The Holiday Silent Auction, Sale and Open House has turned out to be one of the highlights of our calendar year," said resident teacher, the Rev. Genro Lee Milton. "This is not only for the obvious fundraising value for the Zendo, but for the wider interactive opportunity that the event offers, and the chance for the public to take a peek during this festive time and enjoy the Zendo's atmosphere,"
