Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schlappi, Muncy, observed their 40th wedding anniversary Sept. 1, 2011.
They were married at a home ceremony in Naples, N.Y.
Mrs. Schlappi, the former Opal Miller, is the daughter of the late Clyde and Bertha Miller of McVeytown. She graduated from Captain Jack High School, Mount Union. Her career included working for the Veterans Administration, the Army and the Federal Prison System, where she was an administrator at the Allenwood Federal Prison Camp before retiring in 1994.

Mr. Schlappi, son of the late Charles and Wanda Schlappi of Evan Mills and Dundee, N.Y., graduated from Evans Mills High School, and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from State University of New York, Oswego. He received administrative certification from Alfred University, Alfred N.Y., the former Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College, Westminster, Md.; and Bucknell University, Lewisburg. He was an industrial arts teacher in Naples, N.Y., and was an administrator with the Williamsport Area School District until his retirement in 1992.
They are very active in the area as volunteers with many community organizations and often perform gospel and secular music at various events and locations.
They are the parents of eight children and 14 grandchildren.
In honor of their anniversary, a trip to Branson, Mo., is planned for this fall.
