Marijuana at hotel leads to charges

POSTED: July 4, 2008

The discovery of marijuana in a guest room at the Genetti Hotel resulted in two people being jailed on drug charges, according to city police.

Harry James Thomas Jr., 22, of 1907 W. Third St. and Rebecca Rell Barry, 21, of 224 W. Second Ave., South Williamsport, were arrested in a suite registered in Thomas' name about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Patrolman Jason P. Bolt said.

Officers responded to the hotel at 200 W. Fourth St. after housecleaning staff members spotted narcotics once they opened the door, Bolt said.

When police entered the suite, they saw a small amount of suspected marijuana on a kitchen counter, Bolt said.

"Thomas and Barry were found passed out in a bedroom," Bolt said.

"A large gallon-sized bag of suspected marijuana was discovered in the drawer of a nightstand," Bolt said.

Preliminary tests confirmed the substance was marijuana, he added.

After Thomas and Barry were awakened, the two were taken to police headquarters and later arraigned before District Judge Kenneth T. Schriner Jr. on charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were committed to the Lycoming County Prison in default of $30,000 bail each.
