February 12, 2013

I find it sad that certain individuals continue to berate the Sun-Gazette for pointing out the facts about President Obama's policies....

@JohnWilsonKleesL Thank you John! Your post was exactly what I needed this morning. Reminds me of what My Granpappy used to say "boy, start the day with a smile! It irritates people."

Last I checked, Tree, military was neither a form of government nor a food providing safety net in America. I now understand your fascination with the number 5, perhaps I should revise my name for you to 19/5. 19 shirt; 5 hat.

"When the liberalism fails they say the safety net was too generous. When conservationism fails PEOPLE STARVE TO DEATH. That's not my opinion, that's history."

You ask for history, I give you history. You say why are you giving me history and insulting me. Just keep cashing them government checks.

Just curious tree, where does the military fit in this conversation about starving? Oh ya I forgot obama says he's gonna cut back on food for our troops in Afghanistan.

This man is a mind reader. my niece showed me cut and paste today."This dependance on government for one's survival is nothing more than a scam to buy votes for "Progressives" who are destroying our country from within".

Debating with you is like debating with a five year old that isn't getting his way. You seem to put the most thought into your insults, and not much else.

"Do I have that right?"

As usual you don't have it right. Perhaps, Jerr, you could give us an example where socialism has been successful in the history of the world.

You're against the social safety net because of something that happened in the 1600s and North Korea? Do I have that right?

It wasn't socialism no matter how much the malicious right tries to paint it that way.

Carlitos "Try as they may they can not escape the fact that the first settlements where business ventures that at first did not show profit until they retooled, realigned and reset goals."

Exactly, they discarded failed socialism and moved on with Capitalism. Carlitos goes through life with so much irresolution that he never took the training wheels off his bicycle, always needing the nanny state to hold his hand.

"No one is saying our history as a country is blemish free, but it’s our foundation as a Capitalistic economy with individual freedom and opportunity that made it the envy of the world. It boggles the mind why progressives are trying to change what works so well into central planning, which has historically failed to produce anything but mediocrity and the lack of a middle class."

You are going to cling that broken record Phil no matter what facts are presented. Conservativism as stated by enigms did not build this nation. No one ideology or philosophy did either.

Bobbie posted; " To rectify this situation, in 1623 Bradford abolished socialism."

"And this was not the first failure of socialism in America, just an example of history liberals never seem to learn. "

This is how destructive, misinformed, stupid and malicious conservatives and libertarians are. That early contract by the early settlers in America was a corporate contract and they were the sharholders. It wasn't a failed socialism or liberalism or any other ideology. Try as they may they can not escape the fact that the first settlements where business ventures that at first did not show profit until they retooled, realigned and reset goals.

Premier, here I thought you were smart. Slavery is not legal. It is not legally sanctioned by governments anymore. Yet it still exists.

Slavery still exists today in the form of human trafficking, forced labor, or sex trafficking. 17,500 people are trafficked into the Untied States, 3 out of every 4 are women and half of the modern-day slaves are children.

Buff:"I think what eriklatryani meant to say was, we had slavery, but like every other nation on earth, we ended it... although, it is widely realized that the practice still exists and some estimates put the number as being as high as ever in recorded history."

Just wondering Buff how something that was "ended" still "exist"? Confusion is running amok this morning.

"This had required that “all profits & benefits that are got by trade, working, fishing, or any other means” were to be placed in the common stock of the colony, and that, “all such persons as are of this colony, are to have their meat, drink, apparel, and all provisions out of the common stock.” A person was to put into the common stock all he could, and take out only what he needed. This “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need” was an early form of socialism, and it is why the Pilgrims were starving. Bradford writes that “young men that are most able and fit for labor and service” complained about being forced to “spend their time and strength to work for other men’s wives and children.” Also, “the strong, or man of parts, had no more in division of victuals and clothes, than he that was weak.” So the young and strong refused to work and the total amount of food produced was never adequate. To rectify this situation, in 1623 Bradford abolished soc

"The harvest of 1623 was different. Suddenly, “instead of famine now God gave them plenty,” Bradford wrote, “and the face of things was changed, to the rejoicing of the hearts of many, for which they blessed God.” Thereafter, he wrote, “any general want or famine hath not been amongst them since to this day.” In fact, in 1624, so much food was produced that the colonists were able to begin exporting corn. What happened? After the poor harvest of 1622, writes Bradford, “they began to think how they might raise as much corn as they could, and obtain a better crop.” They began to question their form of economic organization."
