Actually it's not a fact. If you are talking about the three highest murder rates, the worst cities for 2012 were Detroit, St. Louis, and Oakland. 4) Memphis, 5) Birmingham, 6) Atlanta, 7) Baltimore, 8) Stockton, 9) Cleveland, 10) Buffalo.

None of the cities you listed are even in the top 10 for murder. Hey, wait a minute. Don't those cities you listed all have strict gun laws?

As for me not being open minded, well did I or did I not ask for what metrics you used to make the moronic statement that Chicago, NY City, and LA were the "crime capitals" of the US?

Oddly enough, I'm still waiting for you to justify why you would disparage three great American cities like that, with apparently no justification. Maybe it just popped into your head?

This all takes me back to one thing Hayes, you hear and see what you want to.

Your points are based on oblivious-spatter leading to nothing. Perhaps if you were a little bit less of a jackwagon and a little more open minded to other peoples' opinions and not just your own, maybe you'd be able to offer up a real constructive opinion that would perhaps one day, lead to a solution...I doubt it.

First off, I've looked at several different 'rankings' While Detriot/St. Louis vary in the top 5. I've seen ones that have Philadelphia at 8, 18, and 50. I've seen ones that have Chicago at 11, 27, and 79.

I'ev seen ones that have L.A. in the 20's, 60's, and just over 100.

But I also notice that while I referenced Chicago, L.A., and NYC; Compton, 23 minutes from L.A would've been a better response. We can throw around whatever responses we want, point is there are plenty of major cities with heavy crime. There are also a lot of rural areas with heavy crime. FYI, on some rankings, Harrisburg, PA was in the top 20.

Personally I feel that if you walk around looking like a victim, you may become a victim. That's pretty much true of any city anywhere in the world.

Sorry enigma, you may have overlooked it, but the comment was I made was specifically about the Lower East Side. After I mentioned the LES, a commenter said:

"Chris: Your naivite can be excrutriating. Have a nice walk."

I mean if you are afraid to walk in the LES after dark, I'm not sure what to tell you. Harlem has gone through some serious gentrification in recent years, and is pretty mild. In fact I'd love to go eat at Sylvia's sometime.

I don't really typically get nervous walking around cities. I lived in the DC area in the late 80's, and went into enough sketchy areas, that maybe I'm immune to it now.

The lower east side is not the whole city. Try Harlem or Bronx, or if you really want the full fright treatment, parts of Brooklyn can do that even during the day. The tourist areas of Manhattan are the safest parts of the city and you think they're the whole city. NYC used to be part of my territory and I can tell you that some parts are definitly high crime areas. The lower east side is not one of them. Oh, but you've been there a few times, maybe you know more about it than I (or the NYPD) do. Maybe you should tell Bloomberg that it's safe. Maybe then he could lighten up on the gun thing a bit.

1) Flint, MI

2) Detroit

3) St. Louis

4) Oakland

5) Memphis

6) Little Rock

7) Birmingham

8) Atlanta

9) Baltimore

I'm still not feeling it. NY, Chicago, and LA seem to be neither the most dangerous, or the safest cities in America. NONE of them even make the FBI's generic violent crime top 10.

4) Phoenix

5) New York

6) LA

7) Detroit

8) San Antonio

9) Columbus

10) Indianapolis

OK, you're doing better, as the 3 cities you named are on the list, but they aren't at the top, and they aren't even in the top 10 in murder.

I'm curious by what metrics you say NY, Chicago, and LA are the crime capitols of the US? I think it's an insulting charge to hurl at 3 great US cities, and you should have some numbers to back your spurious charges up.
