Ban is a mistake

January 24, 2013

Just received a reply from Sen. Robert Casey. I asked what his opinion is about the so-called assault weapons ban. He informed me in a canned letter he will be supporting the ba....

We place far too much emphasis on the First or Second Amendment. If we insisted on proper usage of the Tenth Amendment, all the rest would fall into place. We're not to be a republic, nor a democracy. Democracy is to be the tool used to supply the republic-style federal government of the CONFEDERATION. The states were intended to be sovereign, independent and autonomous, with the national government to provide a sort of collective, a union if you will, to make treaties and negotiate on behalf of the states. The states are the 'parents' of the national government. The national government does very little without the consent of the states, not the other way around!

There are those among us who are so innately stupid that they think it prudent to distrust somebody with no power rather than those who would control them completely! Poor stiupid Mr. Reeder!!

Ask Matthew Bachman if he thinks the proposed ban is a mistake.

If they are going to ban "assault weapons" then it should be all a total ban....none in movies, video games, books, etc....oops I guess we need to attack the First Amendment also!!

Hey Bobbie, finally something we agree on, I too don't agree with Jindal. I don't think the GOP should stop being the 'stupid party'.

This is amazing! The ban is on semi-automatic RIFLES, and the excuse is the Sandy Hook shooting. The problem is that the weapons used in that case were PISTOLS, as the coroner reported. It's also being reported that the Sandy Hook incident is the worst case of school violence in US history, and simply it's not. The worst school massacre in US history didn't involve guns as the weapon of choice and wasn't perpetrated by a young man and wasn't in Connecticut nor was it in the Twenty-First Century. It was a bombing carried out by a 55 year old man in Bath Michigan in 1927. Look it up, it's fascinating. This gun ban is being sold under false pretenses. As such, it's a bad idea fraught with deception. We can't trust our government.

"We've got to stop being the stupid party. It's time for a new Republican Party that talks like adults. We had a number of Republicans damage the brand this year with offensive and bizarre comments. I'm here to say we've had enough of that."

You're right, Chuck.

The Right used the murders of children to further their goal of arming America, especially with "assault weapons." That is an unassailable, sound and valid argument.

Frankly, all of your posts, be they lengthy, well-written, well-supported, logical arguments, or short, humorous retorts brimming with wit, are a pleasure to read.

You are an intelligent, brave, vital member of this community.

Enjoy your day.

ToTEXASfromPA,

Partial Quote :

Nowadays, different divisiveness is being promoted and is crystallizing segments of society so that we are not as homogeneous. As we continue to promote segments of heterogeneity, we will eventually become brittle and fail. End Quote:

I often have those very same thoughts, and wonder why did we allow this to happen..!

But then I remember the words of my Father.

In order for a few Million [or less] people to control over 300.000,000 people they must divide us into smaller groups. And keep us fighting amongst ourselves.

AKA Divide & Conquer

Way to go serve up more tripe ritty style. You used the shootings. The NRA used the shootings. the right uses the shooting. The left uses the shootings. If you are talking about it you are using it. You are ..... never mind I am not going to lower myself .

Maybe its time to switch from Gun Control to News Control...!

These "High Power" Fully automatic word machines can misinform Billions of people in seconds.

Its time for those responsible to be held accountable.

Just me, thinking out loud with my fingers way too close to the keyboard.

ToJerryfromRI,

Yes, things can change in one or two generations.

I remember in a younger time when the US was called a melting pot and generally peoples/immigrants put aside their past nationalism and tribalism to be unified for the common goals of the good of society; yes, there were still issues with discrimination that were not good but I am speaking generally.

Nowadays, different divisiveness is being promoted and is crystallizing segments of society so that we are not as homogeneous. As we continue to promote segments of heterogeneity, we will eventually become brittle and fail.

Kinda like ice cream. Love the mint chocolate chip from the PSU Creamery. When flash frozen, the texture and taste is good. When melted and slowly re-frozen, the water molecules get together and form a hard ice chunk, the chocolate chips become a big bitter mass, and the cream gets soft and over sweet; the texture and taste are destroyed.

CHayes - That is basically what I stated. "It assures that the Constitution and federal laws and treaties (all must be constitutional and adhere to the constitution) take precedence over state law and binds all judges to adhere to that principle in their courts (only on those things that are specific in the constitution, not on all things)." The point left out by the government is that each and every one only takes precedence when it is constitutional. Today too many confuse the constitutional with the administrative, they are 2 separate beasts.

I believe I read months ago where this legislation for this was in the works by Corbett, and then was pushed aside when the Sandusky/PSU incident came to light.

FWIW, I would support redistricting the entire country. It should be done by computer, and the districts should be generated in the most rectangular shapes possible. No fingers, and little snaky pieces of land jutting out. I don't know, and don't care which party such a redistricting would help, I only know it would add weight to each voter's vote by making elections more fair for everyone.

You can't tell me that some apolitical 20 year old genius at MIT couldn't write the code to do that in a single evening.

10's in play anyway Jerry. Tom Marino's predecessor was a 2 term Democrat. Granted, he was a right wing Democrat, but there are a ton of D's in Wilkes Barre.
