Brining music and technology together:
Have you ever wondered what Beethoven and Google have in common? Chopin and YouTube? Just ask Stephanie Jeffreys, the new executive director of the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. For Jeffreys, technology and music both are intrinsic parts of her life, and the two coincide in many different ways. For one, neither classical music nor technology stay the same for very long. Each lives in its own domain, indisputably in the present moment, and both can be used for very unique expressions of nature or feeling. And Jeffreys is eager to capitalize on these striking similarities. She stepped into her role as the symphony’s new executive director on Oct. 19, taking over for Valerie Whyman, a symphony member who now is the WSO’s operations manager. Since then, Jeffreys has absorbed as much as she can about how the symphony functions. This business can be a complicated one, but to hear Jeffreys tell it, she’s relished meeting talented local musicians and learning how everything works.
