Cutters now alone in first
Alan Schoenberger hit his first home run of the season and Nicholas Hernandez earned his first win as the Williamsport Crosscutters moved into first place in the Pinckney Division with a 4-3 win at Mahoning Valley Thursday night. The Crosscutters, who lead Batavia by a half game and Mahoning Valley by a full game, conclude their three-game series there tonight before a weekend series with State College. Schoenberger, from Brisbane, Australia, went deep in the second off Scrapper losing pitcher Preston Guilmet. It was Schoenberger’s first hit of the year. Hernandez (1-0, 2.92) allowed three hits in five shutout innings. Sebastian Valle was 3-for-5 with three RBI. He tripled home Jiwan James in the first, doubled home Jeremy Barnes in the third and singled home Barnes in the seventh. The last RBI proved useful as the Scrappers scored twice in the bottom of the ninth off Justin Long, an inning that included a Barnes throwing error.
