Overbeck sets RBI record in loss to Batavia
Not even a record-setting home run could rescue the Williamsport Crosscutters Thursday night. Cody Overbeck slugged a two-run bomb over the left-center fence in the ninth inning to reach 53 RBI and secure the Cutters season record, but Williamsport fell to a 11-7 loss to Batavia after another short start from embattled righty Freddy Ballestas. The Dominican went 2 2-3 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, including six of seven scored by Batavia in the third inning. He let up six of those hits — all singles — in the third, before Sean Grieve relieved him with runners on first and second and the Cutters in an 8-0 hole. The Cutters would score four in the bottom of the third, but never came closer the rest of a long, damp evening. “He’s a pretty strong mental kid,” said Cutters manager Dusty Wathan of Ballestas. “Tonight was one of those things where, they didn’t hit the ball very hard off him really. It wasn’t like there were balls being hit all over the ballpark.
