Inter-county school district production of Disney ‘High School Musical’ helps students ‘break free’
Although the summer began two weeks ago for most area high-schoolers, students from many of the county’s school districts will stay in school just a little bit longer. That is, at least until July 25 when a 7:30 p.m. show will head off a three-day run of “High School Musical” at the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St. Other times include 7:30 p.m. July 26 and 2 p.m. July 27. The Disney original movie that started the HSM phenomenon in January 2006 recently added a second installation to its Grease-like musical in August 2007. The cast, which includes Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), a basketball star who falls for the school’s transfer scholar, Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), and a slew of other characters, including a baker, a drama queen and her flamboyant brother, and a pianist, proves that sometimes unlikely friends make the best ones.
