Closing the book
LINDEN — The book has been closed. Linden Presbyterian Church, 170 Front St., which has stood as the lone presence for that denomination for more than 100 years, has locked its doors for the last time. The church shut down after a special closing service last Sunday. An aging and dwindling congregation still used the church, a simple, white-sided structure near the Susquehanna River in the hamlet just a few miles west of Williamsport, just off Route 220. According to church officials, the congregation hadn’t had a pastor filling the pulpit since April, but some of those who remained in the church were from long family lines that had attended the church for decades. “Six generations of my family have gone there,” said Diane Beiter (Young), one of the remaining elders of the church. “My granddaughter is the sixth generation of the Young family in the church. ‘Daniel’s Closet’ to be open this morning
Daniel’s Closet will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1101 Washington Blvd., officials have announced.
